It’s results day!!! The time has come where I have to report on progress from days 29-50 of 80 Day Obsession, the workout I’m doing at the moment. If you’ve not heard of this before, then please read the previous few articles:
- Part 32: the 80 day obsession begins…. almost!
- part 33: 80 day obsession – the lowdown
- part 34: days 1-7 of 80DO
- part 35: days 8-14 of 80DO
- Part 36: days 15-28 of 80DO – the results are in
- part 37: celebrating four stone of weight loss
The first four weeks of this programme were titled “phase 1” and you can read about the progress I made in parts 34, 35 and 36 above. I have now just completed phase 2 and have five more weeks left before phase 3 and the entire programme is complete.
I won’t go into great detail about the actual exercises I’ve completed nor the food I’ve been eating here, because I’ve covered it in previous articles. Instead I’ll focus on my achievements and results. I will describe the phase 3 exercises and diet in my next article.
Let’s look at some of my stats starting from when I began on my weightloss journey, jumping to the start of 80 Day Obsession and of course today’s results.
– START OF MY FITNESS JOURNEY (AUG 2016)
Weight: 231 lbs / 104.78 kgs / 16 stone 7 lbs
Body Fat: 17.1%
– START OF 80 DAY OBSESSION (JAN 2018)
Weight: 183 lbs / 83 kgs / 13 stone 1 lb
Body Fat: 15.6%
Visceral Fat: 13
– TODAY (MAR 2018)
Weight: 174 lbs / 78.93 kgs / 12 stone 6 lbs
Body Fat: varies between 12-13%
Visceral Fat: 11
This shows that since the start of my fitness journey 18 months ago, my weight has dropped from 16 and a half stone (231 lbs) to just under 12 and a half stone (174 lbs). That is a loss of 57 pounds (over four stone); almost 26 large bags of sugar. My chest has shrunk from 44 inches to 38.8 inches… that’s over five inches of flab gone from around the man boobs. My waist has shrunk from 45 inches to around 37 … a loss of 8 inches. My neck has had 2.5 inches of fat burnt off it too.
In the images below you will note the visual differences in many areas of my body. Of course, my face has shrunk in and I have seen my neck for the first time in over a decade! My posture is so much better, which means I am less slumped forward. My shoulders have toned really well over the past 8 weeks since starting 80DO; becoming more rounded. My arms have actually gone a bit too skinny. I’ve lost an inch in muscle from my upper arms in 8 weeks, so despite the weight lifting my arms have shrunk in too. It’s natural to lose muscle when trying to burn fat. Often, if Ive not eaten enough my body will burn away the muscle instead of fat.
My chest has improved a lot. Only a little saggy now! It’s lost a lot of fat these past few weeks and they’re tighter. Pecs forming nicely. That bloated area below my chest and above the stomach has gone completely. That has bugged my for years! It was always rounded and made me look pregnant!! That area is now flat, I’m pleased to say. The stomach / waist area itself has also seen an amazing transformation over the past couple of months and now has very visible abs at the front and going up my sides. I’ve clearly shrunk in too; the sides don’t bulge at all.
My calves are nicely toned and glutes are rock solid… but I don’t want to show off about how nice my butt is now… it just sounds wrong 🙂
I’m extremely happy with the progress I’ve made on this workout, particularly on phase 2 of 80 Day Obsession. I have lost nearly two pounds this week, but I don’t know why. This is because I had to cut short a few workouts due to a not being focused and under a ton of stress. I ate well though, but had to do some 30 minute sessions instead of full hours.
I was starting to lose interest and focus in the workouts, mostly because of my dislike towards the fitness instructor. The constant giggling, in-talk, standing-time and idle chat from “Autumn Calabrese” drives me up the wall. I’m a firm believer in workouts being fun, because if they’re dull or hard to follow then it’s too easy to quit. But schoolgirl giggles fused with an annoying accent that can only be compared to Beavis and Butthead is too much. It’s personal preference I suppose, but I want an instructor who gets right in there. Ok, maybe some basic descriptions on how to set up a move, but I want it fast-moving just like Shaun T does in Focus T25 the workout that kick started my fitness journey in part 2: getting in shape.
Things change a little now I’m entering phase 3 of 80 day obsession. It gets harder, and that suits me fine. I hope the isntructor turns into a strict waffle-free boot camp sergeant who’s gonna make me shred my last remaining pounds before the end of the programme. I’ve got around 4 pounds to go until I hit my target.
Goodbye flabs. Hello abs!
